FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS A DJIA?
A diaconal year abroad (DJiA) is a voluntary service in diaconal and social projects. A combination of practical work and pedagogical support makes the DJiA a year of education and orientation. Participants are immersed in a different culture and language. They discover personal strengths and grow beyond themselves.
WHAT IS A FAITH JOURNEY?
A DJiA in the UK focuses on the development of personal faith. I like the idea of having a focus on my personal faith and its development. I enjoy talking to others about their understanding of faith and how they integrate it into their daily lives. I hope that my faith will grow and that I can take back home many new ideas and approaches about the role of faith in my future life.
HOW IS IT FINANCED?
A volunteer service costs about 1000-1500€ per month (including pocket money, insurance, travel expenses, accommodation, meals, seminars, pedagogical support and administrative handling). My sending organization covers part of these costs. In addition, my voluntary service is funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) within the framework of the International Youth Voluntary Service (IJFD). However, since not all costs are covered, we as volunteers are encouraged to make a donation of 3000€. I have established a circle of supporters and would like to use the opportunity to thank all donors once again!
